Martin Luther King Jr. March founder dies

The founder of San Antonio’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. March has passed away.

The Rev. R.A. Callies, an East San Antonio native and pastor of First Gethsemane Baptist Church, organized a group of 50 members of the community to hold the city’s first MLK March in 1978. Today, the event holds the distinction of the being the largest MLK March in the United States.
