City Year San Antonio and Spurs Sports & Entertainment are teaming up to address the drop-out crisis.
Spurs Sports & Entertainment will provide financial support to City Year and promote City Year’s successes to the community.
City Year will be providing data driven, peer-to-peer interventions in attendance, behavior and course performance through its Whole School, Whole Child (WSWC) program at Sam Houston High School. The high school is a part of the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) and is located on the city’s East Side.
Paul Garro, City Year San Antonio executive director says, this partnership is a “launching point” for City Year within the city’s East Side community.
“For the past few years CPS Energy has supported City Year at MLK Academy. And this year several new supporters have stepped up to make sure the Sam Houston and all its feeder middle schools can benefit from City Year’s services,” Garro says.
Garro says that new multi-sector public/private partnership designed to align efforts from SAISD elementary, middle and high schools on the city’s East Side in order to improve graduation rates and college readiness.
Garro adds that the school’s principal Darnell White is a “tremendous leader” for both the high school and all the schools that feed into it.
