Because of the rapid growth, rezoning proposals are already being planned and will soon will be discussed. Growing by almost 3,000 students a year, Northside ISD has no choice but to build new schools, add portables, and rezone.Josh Hall is a teacher and also a parent in Northside ISD. He sees the challenges.
“The growth is exciting and fine as long as we’re able to provide facilities and people to accommodate the growth,” Hall told us.
Los Reyes Elementary, which is under construction off Bandera Road, North of Helotes, will relieve overcrowding at both Helotes Elementary and Beard Elementary. Northside ISD officials say 300 to 400 students will be moved.
“Unless you live around the corner from from the school, if you are on the outskirts, you’re probably going to be moved to another school,” explained Northside ISD spokesperson Pascual Gonzalez.
Rezoning proposals will be discussed and looked at by a zoning committee made up of parents. It’s those parents who make recommendations of where to draw the new boundaries. You can weigh in on the rezoning process by attending a public hearing at 7:00 p.m. on December 1st at Hector Garcia Middle School. CLICK HERE for more information.
