Young Money Drake said it in late January and Rapper Common is now following suit. Their beef is over.
Rapper Common made that clear in a pre-Grammy interview with Fuse TV’s Touré on Sunday night (Feb. 12).
“It was all in the art of hip-hop,” Rapper Common commented about the feud. “It’s kind of over now. It’s over, but it’s all in the art of hip-hop. Drake said some things to me, so I had to say some things back.”
Touré fired back, “So, he started it?”
“I wouldn’t say started it, I don’t know, but I heard something that was said that I felt like it was directed to me, so I addressed it,” Rapper Common added. “That’s all. But, I mean, thank God we were able to move forward from it and all is good.”
Touré went on to bring up Rapper Common’s legendary battle with Ice Cube back in 1996 that led to the Chi-town lyricist delivering the scathing, “The Bitch in Yoo,” before prodding and asking why he aimed anything at YM Drake, whom he labeled an R&B singer.
“We all MCs and no matter what your age or where you from, when you step in the ring…and if you’re playing against me and you’re challenging me at any point, I’m an MC,” Rapper Common responded. “I like MC’ing, I love it, so that’s what I go for.”
Rapper Common waving the white flag comes three weeks after YM Drake he wouldn’t respond to Com’s “Stay Schemin (Remix)” in an interview with Nahright.com.
“Because despite how it’s been worded by him that situation is not a ‘hip-hop moment’ or a ‘battle for the sake of musical integrity’… it’s a ploy for attention around the release of an album,” YM Drake told the hip-hop website three weeks ago. “More than anything, it was just disappointing cause what kid isn’t a fan of what Rapper Common has done for our genre. A guy who made such an incredible career for himself based off expressing genuine feelings about life and love is now targeting me for sharing my story.”
The beef began back in November, when Common dropped “Sweet” and fired a couple of lines at Drake. Drake followed with several bars aimed back at Com on Rick’s Ross’ “Stay Schemin,’” including the sharp line, “It bothers me when the Gods get to acting like broads.”
Upon hearing that, Rapper Common jumped on the same song and dedicated an entire verse to YM Drake.
Both Drake & Rapper Common are back in the studio. Both look to work on a new album. Drake himself is on top of the world at this time. Yes the ladies love Drake believe me.
