San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro has been selected to give the keynote address on the opening night of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., the San Antonio Express-News reports.
Castro will speak on Sept. 4 becoming the first Latino to be a keynote speaker at a Democratic national convention. His speech will immediately follow an address by First Lady Michelle Obama.
Castro has travelled internationally on behalf of the Obama administration and has held speaking roles at political events across the country. He recently hosted President Barack Obama during a trip to San Antonio for a fundraiser.
