The Federal Reserve has confirmed that one of its internal websites was breached by hackers over the weekend raising concerns about cyber security at the central bank.
The Fed insists that no critical functions were affected by the intrusion. The activist group known as Anonymous had earlier claimed to have struck the Fed and published personal information about 4,000 U.S. bank executives on the Web.
“The Federal Reserve system is aware that information was obtained by exploiting a temporary vulnerability in a website vendor product,” a Fed spokeswoman said. “Exposure was fixed shortly after discovery and is no longer an issue.”
The Fed declined to identify which website had been hacked.
