President Barack Obama is planning to issue an executive order this week to improve the nation’s defenses against cyber attacks.
The order would give the Department of Homeland Security a lead role in protecting critical U.S. infrastructure. DHS will be tasked with setting up a system for sharing cyber threats with private industry. The order was drawn up last year after Congress failed to pass cyber defense legislation.
Concerns about cyber security have heightened in recent weeks after a succession of major U.S. companies and government agencies have been hit with cyber attacks. Obama is expected to raise the issue tonight during his State of the Union address.
